1.31.2010 (365/31)

Four Great Presenters, all friends, two I work with every day. They had a great idea and found the right venue (EduCon 2.2). I am proud to be in their company.

1.30.2010 (365/30)

Last Out. For some reason, I have been the last one walking off the point for several years now - this year I documented that. It may not be significant to anyone else, but it is to me. Deal with it!

1.29.2010 (365/29)

As every group departs from Huntington Memorial Camp, a tradition is upheld. There is a wood-fired stove in a sauna on the shore of the lake: a hole is cut into the ice, and after dinner willing participants (mental health is not being discussed here) join together in the sauna and go jump in the lake a few times. Here is this year's Ice Hole Gang (The Assicles).

1.28.2010 (365/28)

This was a tough one to take - Jack took a back seat and let me take the group shot with my camera even though he has a new camera. I was so concerned about getting Jack and Patty in the picture I forgot to make sure I could see everyone (some are hiding on purpose, of course). We didn't get one outside today 'cause of the snow after breakfast, so these are it. Thanks again Jack.

1.27.2010 (365/27)

Dr. Jack Sheltmire has lots of ideas. One he had about eight years ago became the Winter Alumni Event (I have attended the last seven). Jack and Patty are retiring at the end of this season (Jack will be a hard act to follow). I hope we give the next person the room and support we gave to Jack, as was given to him following George...

1.26.2010 (365/26)

Here I Am. We were on a walk today to check out the conditions of the trails and ended up going all the way to KIRBY CAMP and around to the Meadow. It was slippery going from time-to-time and feet sunk in and were not easy to pull our feet out a few times, but it was a great time (OK so some of us were a wee bit wet). The trails should be back to great as soon as there is another few inches of snow. Medium snowfall happening now.

1.25.2010 (365/25)

It's raining. First time in the history of the Winter Alumni Event. Temp during breakfast was 44, winds out by the island gusting to 40mph. This picture is was taken from the end of the ice road after breakfast. We might be swimming on top of the ice soon!!!

1.24.2010 (365/24)

DUH! I just love the obvious. Yes, there are those of us called the Ice Hole Gang, but we at least recognize that we first have to have the hole cut into the ice for us in order to swim (or something similar). This is in front of St. Williams Church.

1.23.2010 (365/23)

Nothing much to see here right now, but if You look at the right time (1.24.2010 2:30-3:00 & 1.28.2010 ~10-11) you can see people walking (or driving) across the ice road to/from Antlers/Huntington Memorial Camps. I will be one of them (if you catch us, send me a screen shot). Or look anytime to see us scurrying around (the webcam on the right is looking from the dining room)

1.22.2010 (365/22)

After a wonderful dinner with the PAECT Board @ Warwick Hotel in Hummelstown, a few of us wanted to hang out and have a few drinks...but this sign stopped us (I read it as: We Really Do Not Need Your Money Here)

1.21.2010 (365/21)

I always wanted to have a mailbox, and bought this one the last time we visited Gary and Margaret (not recently, I will admit). We went to the Apple Festival in Lafayette. I sure do miss central NYS.

1.20.2010 (365/20)

This is where the Ice Hole Gang hangs out yearly (I will be there in a similar hole one week from NOW. We always do this on the night before we leave Raquette Lake: SUNY Cortland Winter Alumni Event @ Huntingdon Memorial Camp (Camp Pine Knot)!!! Pics from there from Sunday - Thursday. This is last year's hole (where a record was broken).

1.19.2010 (365/19)

ScaryOldGuy really does get in front of a class and teach. It's what I do most of the time and I LOVE IT!!! This is my most favorite lesson to introduce my presence to a new class (using Photo Booth and some short videos I made with my trusty and handy portable green screen).

1.18.2010 (365/18)

Philadelphia even has murals INSIDE of school buildings. Here's two from inside one of my Middle Schools...(don't even think about admonishing me about having two pictures on one day. I felt like it!

1.17.2010 (365/17)

Equal time time (still @ Peddler's Village). Jeff and Simba, in a non-posed picture (just the way I like them. You see that Simba was hunting something to chew on. At seven and a half months (some of you might find that number interesting and associate it with me) Simba has a need to always have something in his mouth. Wonder Why?

1.16.2010 (365/16)

Do I post a pic today (as I just caught up on the last four days pics) or just leave this musing: what I see on my monitor is not at all what most of you see on your computers (I have an HD monitor and was yelled at the other day questioning me as to why I have such HUGE pictures on this page, making people scroll from side-to-side). SO, I shall endeavor to turn on a standard sized laptop for looking at the postings from now on, whenever I have one available.Yes I doSammi and Jeff twisted my arm to be seen on public with them and I went along with them to Peddler's Village. I was good for the economy.
Daughter Samantha and her Golden Retriever Simba. It's a rare thing I let someone pose for a picture - but I liked the composition and went with it. Sammi does not mind posing, and Simba has a mind of his own (sometimes it is aligned with our world, most of the time he is a perfectly domesticated retriever, if you understand what that means...)

1.15.2010 (365/15)

Some of Bob and Miriam's reminders of days gone by (could also be labeled: they don't make them like this anymore!). The balance scale on the top speaks for itself; the piece on the bottom is a beauty to behold: a pre-slide rule calculator!

1.14.2010 (365/14)

See: I am not the only photography addicted person in the neighborhood. Spending dinner with Bob and Miriam as he boys test out a new addition to Bob's camera...(not pictured here, BTW)

1.12.2010 (365/12)

I love stuff - one of the ways I get to have more stuff in the house is to have a different fan pull on each chain... (notice that I do not clean for picture taking)

Do I do enough (have a few badges Mark. 2 Questions: Where are the rest of them and Why are they still hanging around?

1.10/2010 (365/10)

Jeff brought Dawkins over today for a walk in the woods: here is one of the many (have at least 10 good shots of him today - that will be a separate pictorial on my .mac account soon. Dawkins has no fear in the woods - jumps and climbs and stays close (just like his herding heritage dictates). This picture was taken in Pennypack Park: mid-afternoon just east of the old parking lot off Verree Rd, overlooking the main walkway and the creek. BTW; Dawk is pure Australian Shepard.

1.9.2010 (365/9)

Two of my Heroes. This show has had a tremendous influence on me. I named my dog after a character(can you guess which character) in this show. Dudley was (half weimaraner half newfoundland) and he was a once-in-a-lifetime dog with a personality that exceptionally unique.. I will have to dig out a picture of him, if I have any. If any of you have ever been to the Syracuse, NY SPCA you have seen (or walked past) a statue of Dudley (not really - but nobody ever believed us that he was not the model for the statue). My Mother has a painting in her home that is a terrific likeness of Dudley as well (same info - he was not the model for the painting....)

1.8.2010 (365/8)

This One Speaks For Itself
One of my core beliefs - teachers are born, not taught. Many people can impart knowledge, but it takes a unique person to be a teacher. I have had many great teachers in my day - I strive to be as effective and caring as each and every one of them in their own way. As I say on my blog (http://blog.discoveryeducation.com/mjperlman/): it's not about me!
